The Support for Learning faculty aims to remove barriers to learning for pupils in order to help every child to be able to access the curriculum that is on offer at Longfield. Our role is to ensure that staff are aware of the needs of our pupils and of strategies and interventions that can be used to facilitate their learning. Sometimes we need to involve other outside agencies or professionals to provide further advice or assessment to enable support to be correctly targeted and implemented. We will co-ordinate these services and ensure that information is shared correctly and appropriately. Support documents for pupils include a pupil sticker for their book and a provision map with specific pupil targets. It may be felt that a child needs all of their services and support documenting in a One Plan or it may be that the child has an Education Health and Care Plan – a legal document that is reviewed in school but produced and amended by the SEN team at Darlington Local Authority. Parents, carers and the pupils themselves play a vital role in the production of support plans by providing views and opinions. Their role continues with supporting us to implement strategies in school and by implementing recommended strategies at home.
We can be found working across all of the faculties in the school but our central point is the Opportunities Resources Base (The ORB). The ORB hosts intervention lessons and exams as well as being used by pupils before school and after school for homework. At break and lunch times pupils can also complete homework and play traditional style games to enhance social interaction.
